Requesting Music

 

The RSCM NZ Music Library is a resource for the use of members and friends by way of their being able to hire music from it in an appropriate way. Members pay a levy of $20 per occasion/set of scores plus "p & p".  Others are welcome to hire scores and should contact the Librarian to find out about the charges. The Librarian will usually send an invoice.

To arrange a loan of music from the RSCM NZ Library take the following steps at least three months before planned use - this is to allow for processing of request (availability, delivery, etc.) and adequate rehearsal time before performance.

A hard copy of the catalogue of music is held in the RSCMNZ "Church Music Resource Centre" and is available upon application from the current Librarian, Mr Norman Kershaw whose address appears above. The library is supervised by the RSCM NZ Wellington Branch Incorporated and is currently housed through the kindness of the Cathedral Chapter in the Crypt of St Paul's Cathedral, Wellington.

Guidelines:

To arrange a loan of music from the RSCM NZ Library take the following steps at least three months before planned use - this to allow for processing of request (availability, delivery, etc.) and adequate time to rehearse before performance:

1. 2. Provide full contact details (including relationship to the RSCM NZ - individual, affiliate, friend etc.) of the person responsible for care of the music upon arrival at the hirer’s address. The librarian will advise costs including P & P (usually by sending an invoice).

3. Advise full details of the work you wish to hire from the library and the date of performance and consequently the target date for return dispatch of all parts to the library.

4. Promise that only 2B pencils and absolutely nothing else will be used by choristers marking their parts: expect a substantial penalty fine if any person dares to use highlighters, pens or anything else but a 2B pencil OR parts supplied do not get returned.

Suggestion:

A small block of “4 x 2” wood with 8 lines of three holes drilled into it and into which 2B pencils can be placed.  This is ideal so 2B pencils can be issued to choristers during rehearsal: it can be spotted in an instant if a pencil has not been returned. This reduces the risk of damage to music from choristers.

Beware of choristers who think because they haven’t got a 2B pencil an HB will do - well it wont and please don’t let them use an HB. And NEVER NEVER a highlighter. 5.

Make a list of names to whom music is issued so you can mark off their name when it is returned and thereby detect any chorister who has not adhered to the 2B pencil rule OR who has not returned their part:

MAKE THEM PAY THE FINE. It is wished we didn’t have to be heavy handed about these matters but experience demonstrates how we need to support choir leaders et al as they instill in choristers such proper conduct and that this is necessary to preserve the integrity of the library.
