Nelson Cathedral's new Minister of Music
The Dean, Wardens and Cathedral Vestry of Christ Church Cathedral Nelson NZ are delighted to announce the appointment of Alan Gray as Organist and Minister of Music at Nelson Cathedral. Alan, until he transfers to NZ, is Organist and Choirmaster of St Michael's Church in Highgate, London. He comes with a wealth of experience as a teacher and church musician and has diplomas in music from Trinity College London and the Royal College of Music, is a Graduate of the Royal School of Music and an Associate of the Royal College of Organists..He plans to commence in the new year (2009).
Roger Williams, an RSCM NZ member and long serving Organist and Choirmaster at Nelson Cathedral, had retired a few years ago until he reassumed the position after the untimely death of his successor. On his return from overseas he has done a little playing. Currently the choir is being taken by choir members and the organ is being played by Hilda Bester. A web search finds the new man is Alan K Gray (not Dr Alan Gray 1855 - 1935, Organist of Trinity College Cambridge for 37 years) and that he also is or has been a conductor of a North London choir called Bella Cora; he is pictured with this women's choir on their site.
Roger says, "I am delighted that he will be coming." Ref: 013009 : 2343
